A Romantic Floral Cascade Wedding Cake at Hodsock Priory

Some wedding enquiries stay with you from the very beginning, and Charlotte’s was one of those. As soon as she shared her vision, I knew this cake was going to be something really special.

Charlotte and Jack celebrated their wedding at the beautiful Hodsock Priory, a venue that perfectly suited the timeless, romantic feel they wanted for their day. Every detail had been carefully considered, and because Charlotte is a talented wedding illustrator herself, creativity flowed through every part of the celebration.

From the stationery to the signage, she had hand-painted so many beautiful details, including the illustration used for their cake menu. Seeing her artwork displayed alongside the finished cake was such a lovely full-circle moment.

Bringing the bride’s vision to life

Charlotte had a clear idea of what she wanted. She dreamed of a soft buttercream wedding cake with delicate horizontal texture and a natural cascade of flowers flowing down the tiers.

Simple. Elegant. Romantic.

Sometimes the most understated designs are actually the ones that require the most attention to detail. The flowers needed to feel effortless, almost as though they had naturally grown around the cake, while still allowing the buttercream finish to remain the star of the show.

Every flower was placed by hand

One of my favourite parts of creating this cake was styling the floral cascade. I worked closely with the incredibly talented florist, Botanicals Floristry, to ensure we had the perfect flowers to complement both the wedding styling and the cake.

Using only food-safe flowers, every single stem was carefully prepared before I began arranging them.

Then came the part I love most. Standing back. Moving one flower. Looking again. Adding another. Taking one away.

Every bloom was placed individually by me until the movement felt completely natural. It wasn’t rushed, and I spent a long time making sure every flower sat exactly where it belonged.

Those finishing touches are often the details nobody notices individually, but together they create the overall feeling of the cake. And for me, that’s always worth taking the extra time over.

A cake designed to feel part of the room

One thing I always aim for is for my cakes to feel like they belong within the space rather than simply being placed in it.

The soft buttercream finish, pastel flowers and delicate styling worked beautifully inside Hodsock Priory’s elegant reception room. Positioned beside the tall windows with natural light pouring in, the cake became part of the room’s atmosphere rather than simply another decoration.

It’s one of those setups where everything just came together beautifully.

Every slice was enjoyed

One of the nicest messages I can receive is hearing that guests loved the cake as much as they loved looking at it.

The day after the wedding, Charlotte messaged to tell me something that made me smile. Every single piece had been eaten. Not a slice left.

For me, that’s always the biggest compliment. A wedding cake should look beautiful, but it should also be remembered for how it tastes, and knowing every guest enjoyed it made all those careful finishing touches feel even more worthwhile.
