A Day at the Mount Pleasant Doncaster Wedding Fair

Wedding cakes, lovely couples, lots of talented suppliers and one very exciting booking…

I spent Sunday at the Mount Pleasant Hotel in Doncaster for their wedding fair, and as always, it was such a lovely day.

There is something I really enjoy about wedding fairs. Yes, I’m there with a table full of cake and hoping people like what I’ve made 😂, but it’s also one of the best opportunities to actually meet the couples behind the enquiries.

The couples who stop at my table aren’t just names in an inbox. I get to hear about their venue, their plans, their colours, what they’ve already booked and, quite often, what they have absolutely no idea about yet!

And that’s exactly what wedding planning is supposed to be about. Finding the people who are going to help bring all those little ideas together.

A little taste of Flourish & Flotts

For this fair, I brought along a selection of my wedding cakes and, of course, there had to be cake samples. This time I was serving up my Luscious Lemon, which went down very well. 🍋

I also had some of my Lambeth-style work on display, alongside different cake designs to give couples an idea of just how much you can personalise a wedding cake.

Because although I make wedding cakes, I’m a big believer that your cake shouldn’t just be pretty. It should taste bloody lovely too.

And then came the really exciting part… one couple booked their wedding cake with me on the day! 🥹

There is honestly no better feeling than someone looking at what you do, chatting to you about their wedding and then deciding that they want you to be part of it. It’s something I will never take for granted.

But it’s not all about the cake…

One of the things I love about wedding fairs is seeing just how many different suppliers come together to create a wedding. And there were some brilliant businesses at Mount Pleasant.

🌸 Flowers by Kay

The Flowers by Kay display was full of colour, texture and beautiful seasonal flowers.

I particularly loved seeing the variety of arrangements they had on display. Flowers can completely transform a wedding space and, as a cake maker, I always love seeing what florists are bringing to the table because flowers and wedding cakes can work so beautifully together.

📸 Natalija Cooper Photography

Natalija Cooper Photography was there showcasing her wedding photography, with a lovely relaxed feel to her display.

Photography is one of those wedding decisions that is so important because, once the day is over, your photographs are what you have left to relive all those moments.

Another photographer at the fair was DJ Imagery, showcasing some seriously impressive wedding photography.

Danny covers weddings across South Yorkshire, Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire, as well as travelling further afield. His work includes everything from natural wedding photographs to those big dramatic images that make you go “WOW!” when you see them.

👰 Flutterby Bridal Boutique

Then there were the dresses!

Flutterby Bridal Boutique had some beautiful gowns on display and is based in Rossington, near Doncaster. They specialise in bridalwear, accessories, flower girl dresses, prom and evening wear, with private appointments designed to give brides plenty of time and a relaxed experience while finding their dress.

And let’s be honest, I could quite happily spend an afternoon looking at wedding dresses even though I’m absolutely not in the market for one. 😂

✨ Enchanted Designs

I also loved seeing the display from Enchanted Designs.

They specialise in personalised wedding stationery and keepsakes, from invitations and save the dates through to on-the-day stationery such as menus, place cards and signage.

I really love suppliers like this because it’s those little personalised details that can make a wedding feel completely unique to a couple.

🎶 Rhythm of Your Choice

If you’re looking for entertainment, Rhythm of Your Choice had plenty of inspiration on offer.

They’re a Sheffield-based entertainment and events agency offering a huge range of wedding entertainment, including DJs, live bands, singers, harpists, magicians, caricaturists, photo experiences and more.

Basically, if you’re thinking “How do we keep everyone entertained?”, they’ve got quite a few ideas!

✈️ Not Just Travel

And then there was the very important question of… where are you going after the wedding? 👀

Not Just Travel were there talking all things weddings and honeymoons, helping couples plan everything from destination weddings to the perfect honeymoon. They offer a personalised travel service, helping couples find the right destination and arrange all those important details.

Because once you’ve spent months planning the wedding, I think you’ve earned a bloody good holiday afterwards.

🥂 Alicat

There was also a fantastic display from Alicat, showcasing their champagne towers and other wedding entertainment and finishing touches.

Their champagne towers are such a fun way to add a bit of theatre to your wedding reception, and they also offer things such as cold spark fountains and dancing-on-a-cloud effects.

And yes, I absolutely stopped to look at the champagne tower. For research purposes, obviously. 👀😂

📸 Elegant Wedding Photography

Elegant Wedding Photography were also at the fair, with albums and images showing their natural and relaxed approach to wedding photography.

Based in Doncaster, they cover weddings throughout South Yorkshire and beyond, with a focus on capturing the day without taking over the day itself.

And then there was Mount Pleasant itself…

Of course, the venue deserves a mention too.

Mount Pleasant is such a lovely setting for a wedding fair because you get the chance to actually look around the venue while meeting the suppliers who could be part of your wedding day. And that’s one of my favourite things about attending fairs here.

You aren’t just looking at wedding suppliers in isolation. You can start putting the whole picture together.

The flowers. The dress. The photography. The entertainment. The stationery. The honeymoon. And, hopefully… the cake. 🍰

Why I love wedding fairs

I think sometimes wedding fairs get a bit of a bad reputation. People imagine walking into a room where everyone is trying to sell them something.

But the good ones don’t feel like that to me. They’re an opportunity to meet the people behind the businesses.

You can have a proper conversation, ask questions, taste things, look through albums, see dresses in person and get a feel for whether you actually like the people you’re potentially going to trust with such an important part of your wedding.

And that’s exactly why I love doing them. I get to meet couples who are at completely different stages of their planning, from those who have booked absolutely everything apart from the cake to those who are standing there thinking: “Right… where on earth do we start?” 😂

And hopefully I can make at least one part of it feel a little bit easier.

So, thank you to everyone who came over to say hello, tried my lemon cake, told me about your weddings and asked me questions. And a huge thank you to the team at Mount Pleasant for another fantastic wedding fair.

I came home with cake crumbs on my clothes, a very happy heart and one new wedding booking. I’d say that’s a pretty successful Sunday. 🤍
