A Modern Rustic Wedding Cake at Ringwood Hall

Three-tier modern rustic buttercream wedding cake with green brushstrokes and white roses at Ringwood Hall

Some couples find you after they’ve booked their venue. Adam and Elisabeth found me before they even knew where they were getting married.

I first met them at the Kelham Island Museum Wedding Fayre, where we chatted all about wedding cakes, design ideas and the kind of day they hoped to create. At that point, they hadn’t even chosen a venue, but they already knew one thing — they wanted me to make their wedding cake.

Not long afterwards, they entered a Win Your Wedding competition and were announced as the winners, securing venue hire and some incredible prizes for their wedding at the beautiful Ringwood Hall Hotel. Watching their plans come together, from those early conversations through to delivering their finished cake, made this wedding feel even more special.

I might have quietly been hoping they’d win too!

A lovely full-circle moment

There was another reason this wedding meant so much to me.

Adam is the son of Jo and Keith, who I’ve known for years through my work as a gym instructor. I still see them most weeks, so when Jo recommended me to Adam and Elisabeth, it genuinely meant a lot.

I’ve watched their family celebrate so many milestones over the years, and Jo and Keith were even guests at my own wedding. Being trusted to create Adam and Elisabeth’s wedding cake felt incredibly special, and it’s one of the things I love most about this job. Many of my couples come through recommendations, and there’s no bigger compliment than someone trusting you with such an important part of their wedding day.

Their vision

Adam and Elisabeth wanted something that felt a little different whilst still keeping a timeless elegance. Their colour palette centred around beautiful shades of green, with a style that balanced rustic textures with clean, modern design.

We decided on a softly textured buttercream finish with bold green brushstrokes running across the tiers. It gave the cake an artistic feel whilst still keeping it elegant and understated.

Instead of the more traditional approach of placing flowers in three neat clusters, we wanted something that felt much more contemporary. Large statement white roses were arranged organically across the cake, allowing each bloom to become part of the design rather than simply decorating it.

The finished cake felt romantic, modern and completely personal to them.

Every flower was placed with care

One of my favourite parts of creating this cake was adding the flowers.

Every stem was individually prepared before being carefully positioned by hand. I spent time moving flowers, stepping back, looking from different angles and adjusting everything until the arrangement felt completely natural.

It’s often these finishing touches that make all the difference. The flowers appeared to grow effortlessly across the cake, creating movement without taking away from the simplicity of the buttercream finish.

Sometimes less really is more.

Beautiful inside and out

As important as the design is, I always want my cakes to taste every bit as good as they look. For their wedding, Adam and Elisabeth chose two of my favourite flavours:

  • 🍋 Luscious Lemon
  • 🍒 Black Forest

A fresh, light lemon sponge paired perfectly with the rich chocolate and cherry flavours of the Black Forest cake, giving guests two completely different flavour experiences. Judging by what I heard afterwards, they were definitely a hit.

The best kind of feedback

One of the loveliest parts of my job is hearing from couples after the wedding. Both Adam and Elisabeth took the time to message me personally to say thank you, which honestly means the world to me. Then Adam left this wonderful review…

★★★★★

“Used Flourish and Flotts for our wedding cake. 3 tiers and was both delicious to eat and beautiful to look at, also really easy for delivery to venue day of and easy to communicate with throughout. 100% recommend.”

Knowing that the cake looked exactly how they’d imagined, tasted amazing and was enjoyed by their guests is exactly why I love doing what I do.
